THE Spring Gully man placed in an induced coma after a suspected bashing has awoken in hospital in Melbourne.
Antony James Woodward was taken to the Alfred Hospital after a mystery incident which left him with bleeding on the brain, bruising around his body and a swollen jaw.
Police said Mr Woodward was awake but unable to communicate after major brain surgery.
Bendigo Crime Investigation Unit Detective Sergeant Col Grenfell said police were still appealing to the public for information to unravel the mystery of what happened to Mr Woodward.
"We desperately need some information from someone to point us in the right direction," Sergeant Grenfell said.
Mr Woodward presented at the One Tree Hill Hotel about 2pm Friday April 10, appearing disoriented and with an obvious head injury.
Staff recognised Mr Woodward, who was a regular at the pub.
Concerned for his welfare, staff at the hotel took Mr Woodward to his house where his condition deteriorated.
Mr Woodward was then taken to Bendigo Base Hospital before being transferred to the Alfred Hospital.
