Spearhead Matt Gretgrix enthralled the parochial Canterbury Park crowd with a six-goal effort while pacy half-back Glenn Daly continually found space and time to shred the Tigers’ defence with his linkwork, run and carry.

As key defender Tim Hill completely shut down Kyneton full-forward Mitchell Scholard it was left to small forward Ben Weightman to kick the Tigers’ majors.

He didn’t disappoint, with a five-goal haul for Kyneton.

But with 16 majors to eight after quarter-time the Hawks notched their second win for 2015: 20.21 (141) to 10.8 (68).

The opening half was reasonably competitive despite the Hawks holding a 40-point buffer at the main break.

Gretgrix (2), Brodie Filo and Jarrod Findlay all nailed majors for the home side in the first term as only Andrew Aiello and Weightman were able to respond for Kyneton.

Eaglehawk’s 13-point margin could have been bigger except Findlay hit the post from 10 metres out in time-on.

The second quarter belonged to Daly. He continually made the overlap down the grandstand wing to hand the Hawks the lion’s share of possessions.

The Two Blues slotted 7.5 to Kyneton’s 3.2 to take a match-winning lead into half-time.

Inaccuracy plagued Eaglehawk in the third term. Kicking to the Simpson’s Road end the Hawks added 3.8 to three goals, with the remarkable sight of Tiger full-forward Scholard moved to full-back mid-term to stand Gretgrix.

Pascale Craig, Ben McPhee and Daly started a heap of forward thrusts for the Hawks with Weightman (2 goals) the only reliable scorer for the Tigers. Alik Magin and Josh Houlden were their most consistent ball-winners.

Even though the last quarter was a formality with Scholard back at full-forward for Kyneton, the Hawks regained their accuracy with 6.4 for the term.

Sean Williams and Filo took their personal goal tallies to three apiece with Filo’s around-the-corner shot while almost off-balance the goal-of-the-day.

Fittingly, Daly unloaded a long bomb to add his name to Eaglehawk’s list of nine individual goal-scorers.

Hawks’ coach Luke Monaghan said it was gratifying to see his side bounce back from a terrible performance against the Storm the week before.

“We didn’t show up with the right intensity (at Strathfieldsaye) so today we wanted to show ourselves and our supporters that we can play with that intensity,” the coach said.

“When you’ve got 22 blokes who play the right way and have the right attitude, we can get results like today’s.”

And Monaghan added it was great to see nine goal-kickers among 14 Hawks’ players who’d actually had shots on goal.
