AFTER a hugely successful morning tea, raffle and a screening of the movie Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel shown at the Bendigo Cinemas, the The Bendigo Y Service Club Women raised $5000 for The Smith Family.

“This was our best ever fundraiser. It was a combination of the great movie, the time of the year and a wonderful response from all our family and friends and supporters. It was such a good cause,” President of the Bendigo Y Service Club Women, Shirley Unmack said.
The Smith Family is a national charity which provides disadvantaged children with tools and support in their community to help them thrive at school.
About 317 Bendigo children and young people, receive a Learning for Life sponsorship which provides financial support, while many others benefit from the after-school Learning Clubs and mentoring programs which are coordinated by The Smith Family and its community partners.
“The donation will be a key contributor to the running of programs and activities for students and families, focusing on literacy, numeracy and mentoring within the community,” Bendigo Program Coordinator at The Smith Family, Lia Comodo said.
