For it has been a decade since the perennial battlers both occupied a spot in the BFL top five at the same time.
Admittedly, only one round has been played, but both the Tigers and Magpies head into this weekend in the top five,
Castlemaine is second after belting Maryborough by 79 points last Friday, while Kyneton opened its season with a 60-point victory over Gisborne and is sitting third.
The last time both the Tigers and Magpies were in the top five together was round six, 2005 when the top half of the BFL ladder read: Gisborne (5-0, 157.1%); Castlemaine (4-1, 138.0%); Golden Square (3-2, 138.8%); Kyneton (3-2, 107.8%); South Bendigo (3-3, 118.1%).
Kyneton dropped out of the top five the next week following a 31-point loss to South Bendigo and since then, there has been 175 ladders since the Tigers and Magpies were both in the top five together.
Meanwhile, last Friday was Castlemaine’s first round one win since beating Kyneton in 2005 by 59 points.
