Play.Sport.Australia is a new scheme aimed at getting more Australians off the couch and playing sport to improve their health.
Senior Michael Ronaldson, Patron Senator Bendigo said the national strategy would be a plus for all communities.
"I want more people in Bendigo to be up off the couch, putting down the remote and getting active," Senator Ronaldson said.
"As adults we need to set the example for our young people and get involved with a sports club.
"We boast about being a nation that loves our sport, so let's show it.
"Whether it's having a kick or game of netball for Golden Square, a roll at Kyneton Bowling Club or a hit of golf at Quarry Hill Golf Club, you're active and you're more likely to stick with it if it's organised and structured."
Minister for Health and Sport, Sussan Ley said research showed about 4.5 million people said they want to join a sport, but various reasons such as time, cost and confidence, had not.
Minister Ley said Play.Sport.Australia was about a balanced approach to grassroots participation, as well as elite results.
