Bushrangers' power forward Josh Schache caught AFL recruiters' attention as he kicked seven goals in the 157-50 victory.
After his first match for premiership points as Pioneers coach, Brett Henderson said Murray's taller players were too strong over four quarters.
"We just didn't have the height to limit their impact," Henderson said.
"Unless we were in control of the ball we were in trouble.
"When Murray had possession, especially in midfield they did well to put the ball high to their targets.
"Schache marked just about every pass that went toward him."
Although disappointed by the final margin, Henderson said the match was a valuable learning experience.
"Marty Hore played at full-back for three quarters and then went forward in the last. He competed well all day.
"Lachie Tardrew played an exceptional game at half-back or wing. His game is developing well."
Captain Sam Simmons was among the best as Rhys Free and Aidyn Johnson led Bendigo's attack on two goals apiece.
Henderson said the key was to stay positive ahead of the Good Friday match against North Ballarat Rebels at Epsom-Huntly Reserve from 2pm.
