YOU never felt as though the Redbacks were able to get into top gear this season, despite losing just two home and away games and finishing second on the ladder.

The team seemed to constantly change each game through unavailabilities and injury, yet the Redbacks, who used 19 players, spent more than half the season sitting on top.

Squandered the opportunity to vie for back-to-back flags when they fell 58 runs short of Strathfieldsaye in their semi-final - their 13th year in a row finishing top four.

For the 11th time in the past 15 years Heath Behrens topped the Redbacks’ runs, and is now the all-time leading run-scorer in the BDCA with 10,578.

Behrens - who for the first time since 1997-98 didn’t make a century - Ben Gunn and captain Leigh McDermott carried a heavy load with the bat, all averaging above 35.

And with the ball it was the evergreen Nick Crawford, Miggy Podosky and McDermott again who combined to take 86 of the Redbacks’ 127 wickets.
