HEARTBREAKING end to a season where the Jets took the gigantic step from perennial battlers to the brink of a premiership.

Only the most staunchest of Jets’ supporters would have had their side figuring in finals action this season, and even captain Ben Devanny admitted his expectation was to hopefully, win five games.

But Strathfieldsaye already had five wins on the board before Christmas, and while most BDCA pundits were waiting for the Jets to stumble and slip out of the top four, they maintained their position to play finals for just the second time since 2001.

They upset Bendigo United by 58 runs in the semi-final, and then for much of day two of the grand final against Strathdale looked to be motoring to the premiership, only to concede 50 runs off the last five overs and lose by two wickets.

Ben Devanny was again outstanding with bat and ball; Luke Jones spent more than 10 hours at the crease during the finals; Cory Devanny produced his best season with the ball; and Xavier Crone is a star on the rise.
