The inquiry was announced this week after the release of a landmark report into the issue.
The Joint Committee on Law Enforcement will begin public hearings in July.
The Victorian government recently announced a $45 million ice action task force to tackle the impact of the drug on the community.
"It has been really pleasing to see the Victorian government establish its ice prevention task force to look at what can be meaningfully done across the state to reduce the use of ice and respond to those in need," Ms Sykes said.
"The national joint committee is in a position to explore responses that are beyond the state’s power that are critical to really addressing the areas of importation, manufacturing and distribution of ice.
"We applaud all efforts to ensure a co-ordinated response to an issue that can destroy lives, families and communities and that engages many sectors."
Ms Sykes said the effects of ice were being felt across Bendigo.
"Police and family are at the front line of ice use within our communities and both need support at every level," she said.
I can only imagine the devastation this is causing for families.
- Lisa Singh
Deputy chair of the committee Senator Lisa Singh said the drug was harming communities everywhere.
"As a parent, I can only imagine the devastation this is causing for families," she said
"The use of crystal methylamphetamine is incredibly detrimental in our communities.
"The threat of ice requires strong national policy so I hope the work of this committee will help lay the groundwork for that."
Focuses of the joint committee will include the prevalence and culture of methamphetamine use in Australia, including in Indigenous, regional and non-English speaking communities as well as the involvement of organised crime including international organised crime and outlaw motorcycle gangs in methamphetamine-related criminal activities.
