Bendigo City FC is on the road again to take on Nunawading City on Sunday.
Bendigo is still smarting from last week’s disappointing 4-1 loss to rivals Ballarat.
“Last week was very disappointing, so the quicker we can get out there on the weekend and have a crack at making up for it, the better,” Bendigo City FC coach Greg Thomas said on Friday.
Thomas says Bendigo City FC must produce a more committed effort this weekend after its intensity levels were lacking against Ballarat.
“We just really struggled from the outset last week and they were a lot more determined and hungrier than us and just had more enthusiasm,” Thomas said.
“A lot of the boys aren’t from Bendigo and probably weren’t aware of the rivalry between the two cities, but Ballarat certainly was and played accordingly.”
The Bendigo City FC midfield will be boosted on Sunday by the return from injury of George McHeileh and Prince Quansah.
“They will both play in the midfield. We’ve been missing a bit of their guidance, so they’ll be invaluable for us this weekend,” Thomas said.
“We’ve done a lot of work this week on our shape in the midfield and we have a real focus on scoring more goals... we’re not scoring enough at the moment.”
Bendigo City has scored seven goals in its first four games, three of which came in its only win of the season so far against Brunswick City in round three.
Nunawading City is on the bottom of the NPL1 East ladder, having lost all four of its games.
Sunday’s game at Mahoneys Reserve in Forest Hill starts at 3pm.
• NPL1 West ladder: St Albans (7 pts); Bulleen Lions (7); Whittlesea Ranges (5); Bendigo City (5); Moreland City (5); Moreland Zebras (5); Sunshine George Cross (5); Melbourne City (4); Ballarat Red Devils (4); Brunswick City (0).
