BENDIGO teenager Zahlia Burrill-Grinton reminded us all this week of the power of youth via her fierce determination to help the people of cyclone-devastated Vanuatu.
Zahlia woke one morning with a newfound cause after seeing the scenes coming out of Vanuatu in the wake of Cyclone Pam.
The teenager has launched a fundraising campaign and plans to take money raised in Bendigo to Vanuatu herself to determine, with the help of her mother, how it can be best spent to make a difference.
Amazingly, that's only half the story as Zahlia is actually putting the welfare of the people of Vanuatu in front of her own with this fundraising campaign.
The 14-year-old has a serious heart condition which has been causing her to have weekly blackouts of up to two hours.
She faces important surgery but is happy to allow such an important moment in her young life to play second fiddle to helping others in need.
What a fantastic attitude from a young member of our community and a great tribute to Zahlia's character and upbringing.
Take a bow Zahlia and good luck with both your campaigns.
