Campbell - originally from Bendigo - was the BUA guest speaker at its recent season launch at the Bendigo Stadium.
“It was great to hear from Wayne about the state of umpiring in general, in particular that there are around 18,000 umpires needed across Australia and currently, we only have 11,000,” BUA chairman John Norton said.
“Based on this the AFL umpiring department has just launched a brand new advertising recruitment campaign, which is based on similar messages that the BUA has been preaching to the public in recent recruiting campaigns.
"The key components of the campaign are the rush you get umpiring, you are up close to the players rather than sitting in the grandstand, and it’s a job you have fun doing.
“As well as this, Wayne reinforced how umpiring instinctively grows your leadership and decision-making skills, which you take in your professional and personal life.”
AFL umpires Rob O’Gorman, Tim Lougoon from Bendigo and Adam Wojcik also attended the launch.
