THE Coalition's public transport spokesperson David Hodgett has put his support behind Bendigo Metro Rail, provided the Labor government follows through with extra funding.

Mr Hodgett visited Bendigo following the shadow cabinet in Maryborough on Monday.
He said a local rail network for Bendigo would be a great boost to the city.
"Everyone I've spoken to - whether it's local members or people involved in Bendigo - thinks it's a great idea," Mr Hodgett said.
"The taskforce should be looking at demand, frequency and cost, and if it all fits together then it's a great idea."
Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards is chairing a $2 million taskforce of stakeholders investigating the Bendigo Metro Rail plan, following a Labor Party promise last year.
The network could see trains travelling solely between Bendigo's four existing stations, as well as a re-opened Golden Square Railway Station.
The taskforce will report back in June.
Mr Hodgett said it was unlikely that $2 million would be enough to give a clear picture of the plan.
"The concern is that the government has shot from the hip on this one with a looming election last year," he said.
"If would be a shame to see this report finished and then have it gather dust, only to be re-announced in three or four years' time.
"They need to be prepared to back it up with serious funding."
The Bendigo Metro Rail taskforce will look into connections with buses and existing rail services, and investigate demand and frequency.
