During a one-month residency in outer Kuala Lumpur in 2010, Pelchen witnessed countless young motorcyclists speeding dangerously amidst heavy traffic (in T-shirts and thongs) along Kuang Road.
Leaning against the residency wall, a few days into his stay, he found the wreckage of a motorcycle that had claimed the life of a 13-year-old boy.
Pelchen’s encounter with life in the balance led to a four-month intensive process of drawing, photographing, and weaving.
