The 22-year-old is among the Pies' army of young players aiming to make their mark on the competition.
Karnezis, a lifelong Pies fans, pulled on the Collingwood jumper for his first senior clash last week.
He booted three goals in their first NAB Challenge match against Hawthorn.
Karnezis said that was his first step in securing a spot for round one.
His next step is to continue his good form in the Pies' second pre-season match in Bendigo against fierce rivals Carlton.
"It was a really good hit-out, we got to see some new faces and now everyone is just fit and raring to go for our game in Bendigo," he said.
"It has been a solid, but long pre-season because of the delayed start this year, so it has been hard to be physically and mentally ready.
"Having played last week, we are now itching to go."
Karnezis said he had put the frustrations of 2014 behind him and was focused on his goals this season.
"It was tough last year," he said.
"My body let me down, but now I am feeling good.
"I have put a lot of hard work in on and off the track, so hopefully I will be able to got to that next level this year."
As part of the NAB Challenge match in Bendigo, Collingwood will be hosting a two-day camp in the region on March 16 and 17.
Karnezis said he and his team-mates were looking forward to seeing the Pies faithful in central Victoria.
