While organisers have been busy preparing the venue for one of the biggest athletics and cycling events of the southern hemisphere, Knox has been coming to terms with competing.
The 25-year-old only found out he would be racing in the Madison on Sunday night when BIM chief executive Rik McCaig called to see if he would be interested.
Knox jumped at the opportunity.
“It is the first time I am going to be racing the event,” he said.
“It should be a good race.”
Knox has been matched up with cyclist Sam Lane for Sunday night’s Madison.
The duo will be up against cyclists from across the country as well as some international contenders.
There are 16 teams contesting the race including Glenn O’Shea, Jack Bobridge, Graeme Brown and Sam Welsford.
Knox, who has been riding since he was a teenager, said he was looking forward to gearing up for the race.
“The Madison is one of the biggest weekends for cycling in the city and I am looking forward to it,” he said.
Last month Knox also took out the Bendigo and District Cycling Club’s elite men title.
Having finished the event in second place for the past six years, Knox said it was a great feeling to final get his first win.
“There were three separate races; there was a 1000m time trial, a scratch race and a point’s race and I won the last two races,” Knox said.
