Ian Francis Jamieson, 64, appeared for a committal mention.
He is charged with three counts of murder for the shooting death of Greg Holmes, 48, his mother Mary Lockhart, 75, and her husband Peter Lockhart, 78 on October 22.
Following discussions with the Department of Public Prosecutions, Jamieson's solicitors requested the matter be adjourned for six weeks to carry out a psychiatric assessment of the accused.
Magistrate Jennifer Tregent granted the request.
Jamieson was remanded in custody and will re-appear at the Bendigo Magistrates' Court on April 15.
