It’s about value for money and access to facilities when pool subscribers attend a council-operated facility for which they bought a season pass.
Denying subscribers the use of these facilities could be construed as a restraint on what has been advertised by the council for the subscription monies paid.
At a recent council meeting, during question time Daryl Rowe asked why the diving areas were closed at times when he and his grandchildren were in attendance - again a denial of facilities paid for with a seasonal pool pass.
Perhaps when setting the fees councillors need to be mindful that the vagaries of inclement weather are not the only thing denying access to pools.
Demands by schools and training squads leading to the closure of diving facilities and lanes deny other pool users certain rights bestowed upon them by purchasing their season pass. They are not getting value for money.
Perhaps the ratepayers of Bendigo deserve value for money in constructing a pool at Kangaroo Flat without frills – or a “Taj Mahal” as described by Colin Burns in his letter of February 9.
An outlay upwards of $10 to $15 million rather than in excess of $30 million is more appropriate, along with the with retention of the Browning Street hall. This would provide a win-win for residents and ratepayers and value for money.
