A NUMBER of Bendigo bus users who catch their buses along Mitchell Street are concerned there is a lack of seating and shelter while they are waiting.
About a dozen of them spoke to the Bendigo Advertiser today, and all of them indicated issues to do with seating and shelter.
Jackass Flat resident Claire Schilling said she thought existing seats needed to be pushed back a bit for there to be more shelter, but understood that could impact on businesses more.
"We've got nowhere else to be," she said.
"We've all camped here because there is no shelter."
She said frequently the people who caught buses were the elderly and disabled and it was easy to feel overlooked as a bus user.
"It has felt very much like the people who catch the buses are the last people to be consulted," she said.
City of Greater Bendigo director of presentation and assets Darren Fuzzard said the second stage of the Mitchell Street redevelopment would include a large bus shelter in the Mall.
He said he had not heard there had been concerns with the bus stops since the first stage was complete.
"If it is a concern, we will have a look at it," he said.
Public Transport Victoria has also been approached for comment.
