Few things in life match that rush when your musical icons walk onto stage.

They play those first few chords of the song you know and love.

The song that accompanies you on those quiet train rides to Melbourne. Or on long road trips when you turn the speakers up far too loud and sing like nobody in the world is watching you.

For my mum, it was always Hotel California by the Eagles.

I'm sure it was the same for thousands at Saturday's concert at Hanging Rock.

Like those who saw Jimi Hendrix's stunning 1969 Woodstock performance, or Bob Dylan booed off stage in 1965 for abandoning his acoustic set, every person who waited out the storm on Saturday will now proudly claim: "I was there".

They were there when lightning closed in on the Eagles. When an immense storm almost blew away the stage. When Don Henley briefly thanked the audience and continued like nothing had happened.

The rain might have ruined the night for some, but those true fans who remained will always remember that crazy old night at Hanging Rock.

For music lovers, nothing could be sweeter.
