Each and every one of us is responsible for the care of children and we have the power to change the cruelty afflicted, in our name, by our governments.
It is time to change the conversation, to be informed rather than to believe the politics.
The report, presented to parliament by the Human Rights Commission, in the name of all Australians, should not be used as a politic football.
The Human Rights Commission is an independent body of lawyers, former judges, academics and experts among the best and most experienced in the world. Together they have investigated children being held in detention and they have now presented their report to the government.
It is a statement of facts, in need of immediate attention. It is the responsibility of the government in office to act upon these recommendations. And the need is now, right now.
