The year 7 student at Bendigo South East College is getting her hair dyed bright red at Jools For Jim as part of the annual fundraiser, which raises money for research into blood cancers including leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
She said the inspiration for taking part was her mum Natalie, who is a breast cancer survivor.
"A couple of years ago my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer and she caught it early but she fought a battle and she won," she said.
"I’m proud of her because she’s very strong."
Kim said she had wanted to take part in the fundraiser since then as a way of helping other families who went through what her family did.
"I know the donations really help, because the donations from other people in the community helped with breast cancer research and helped save my mum," she said.
"I’d like to help other families who are dealing with something like that, I see it as a way of giving back."
Kim chose a specific fundraising goal which is close to her heart - her family had benefited from being close to Natalie while she was receiving treatment.
"She was with us a lot of the time instead of being away somewhere far where we couldn't visit her," Kim said.
"My goal is $560 and by donating that, that gives a family one week accommodation at the nearest hospital wherever the loved one is going through treatment so they can be closer to them."
Mum Natalie said Kim had wanted to do the World's Greatest Shave before she even knew she was going to have chemo and lose her hair.
"Kim wanted to do it when she was eight," she said.
Natalie said she felt Kim was of an age now where she could take part.
"I think she’s very inspiring to want to do this to help other people, I admire her," she said.
