Leading Senior Constable Peter Bullock said the 50-year-old motorcyclist was riding south along Queen Street when the incident occurred.
He said the driver of the station wagon disobeyed the "no right turn" sign and failed to give way to the motorcyclist.
"In addition to failing to follow the sign he has also failed to give way to a motorcycle travelling along Queen Street," he said.
He said the motorcyclist was thrown from his vehicle but appeared to suffer only minor injuries.
Paramedics had attended to the motorcyclist, who had a sore ankle.
Police are speaking to the driver.
