Last time: Sedgwick 0-0 dr Axe Creek 0-0.
Since 2008: Axe Creek 4; Sedgwick 2.
SEDGWICK - showed last week why they are the No.1 ranked batting side in the EVCA.
Chased down Golden Gully’s 268 with ease, answering with 5-355, with Matt Dwyer (117), Zac Poole (65), captain Rick Ladson (60 n.o.) and Dustin Elliott (59) all raising their bats.
The Rams have Dwyer (97.2), Poole (48.0) and the evergreen Scott McKenzie (80.0) all averaging at least 48 with the bat.
With Ladson, Steven Stroobants and Corey Jones in the side this game, the Rams have the makings of a handy footy team as well.
• Runs - Matt Dwyer (486); Zac Poole (366); Dustin Elliott (224). Wickets - Zac Poole (14); Jordan Ilsley (14); Matt Dwyer (14).
AXE CREEK - will want to tighten up with the ball after conceding 435 against United last round.
The Cowboys’ batting has stood up well in the past two games, with back-to-back scores of 304 against United and 339 against Marong, moving Axe Creek to No.2 in the batting rankings.
Joel Bish enters this clash on the back of consecutive scores of 112 and 137 n.o.
In Bish’s past seven innings, only twice has he been dismissed for under 62.
• Runs - Joel Bish (380); Grant Le Poidevin (314); Greg Burns (225). Wickets - Grant Le Poidevin (18); Nick Skeen (15).
MAIDEN GULLY v WEST BENDIGO - 1.30pm at Maiden Gully.
Last time: Maiden Gully 0-0 dr West Bendigo 0-0.
Since 2008: West Bendigo 6; Maiden Gully 0.
MAIDEN GULLY - would be bitterly disappointed to have blown the chance to win their first game of the season last week when they faded with the bat against Marong.
The Gully stumbled from 6-226 to all out 241 chasing the Panthers’ 7-266 to fall 25 runs short.
The positive for the Gully was its 241, in which Alex Gorrie (55) top-scored, was its highest score of the season, and only its fourth total above 200 in its past 20 games.
• Runs - Rob Brown (237); Lachlan Mickan (200); Alex Gorrie (179). Wickets - Brett Haw (11); Rob Brown (8).
WEST BENDIGO - lost for the fourth time in their past six games last round when defeated by Mandurang by 43 runs.
The Redbacks are now 13 points outside the top four.
Struggled with the bat against the Rangas when they were bowled out for 155 in the first innings in a game where Cameron Holding top scored with 30.
The Redbacks will be extra keen to perform well on their reunion weekend.
• Runs - Gary Singh (328); Travis O’Connell (248); Ken Bell (237). Wickets - Brad McHugh (16); Dion Prange (15).
MANDURANG v GOLDEN GULLY - 1.30pm at Mandurang.
Last time: Mandurang 0-0 dr Golden Gully 0-0.
Since 2008: Mandurang 3; Golden Gully 0.
MANDURANG - still haven’t put a foot wrong, with the Rangas undefeated and 33 points clear at the top of the ladder.
They didn’t have it all their own way last round when they had been 7-100 chasing West Bendigo’s 155.
However, a strength of Mandurang is its batting depth, and that was shown again when the last three wickets added 98 to lift the Rangas over the line.
The side’s leading run-scorer Matt Giri returns to give the batting a boost.
• Runs - Matt Giri (263); Michael Healy (256); Ben Rodda (208). Wickets - Michael Healy (18); James Pietromonaco (15).
GOLDEN GULLY - slipped 11 points outside the top four after last week’s defeat to Sedgwick.
Bowling has been one of the strengths this season of the Cobras, who before last week had only given up one score above 200.
But they conceded 355 runs against the Rams, while only taking five wickets in what was a tough day.
• Runs - Josh Hutchinson (221); Nathan Shatwell (213); Jeremy Rogerson (205). Wickets - Brad Webster (23); Travis Nolan (11); Shaun O’Shea (11).
MARONG v EMU CREEK - 1.30pm at Marong.
Last time: Marong 0-0 dr Emu Creek 0-0.
Since 2008: Marong 3; Emu Creek 2.
MARONG - the Panthers are coming off their second win of the season last round against Maiden Gully in what was another solid effort with the bat.
Having failed to score more than 146 in their first eight innings of the season, the Panthers have since made 7-203, 295 and 7-266.
The Panthers have had Duane Anderson (78 n.o.), Adam Brown (55) and Nathan Matthews (70) all score half-centuries in their past two games.
• Runs - Tom Huf (239); Andrew Gladstone (170); Scott Ross (153). Wickets - Jeremy Ross (19); Duane Anderson (11).
EMU CREEK - a tough period for the Emus, who in their past three games have fallen from second to fifth on the back of losses to Mandurang and Spring Gully and a washout with Axe Creek.
The Emus’ batting let them down in the two losses when they were bundled out for scores of just 155 and 102.
Opener Brad Rowe has scored four half-centuries in his past seven games to be the Emus’ in-form batsman.
• Runs - Brad Rowe (313); Simon Marwood (210); Shane Hamilton (203). Wickets - Justin Hancock (22); Simon Marwood (19).
UNITED v SPRING GULLY - 1.30pm at Ewing Park.
Last time: United 0-0 dr Spring Gully 0-0.
Since 2008: United 6; Spring Gully 5.
UNITED - look out, here come the Tigers.
The reigning premiers are on the march, with the Tigers back in the top four for the first time since round three.
The Tigers are coming off a monster score of 7-435 against Axe Creek last round in which classy opener Andrew Collins plundered 211.
With veteran Keiran Nihill making a comeback and Alex Collins back from a knee injury, the Tigers side is getting an ominous look as finals approach.
• Runs - Andrew Collins (362); Forbes Klemm (243); Josh White (219). Wickets - Josh White (14); Luke O’Sullivan (14).
SPRING GULLY - the Crows have endured a tough season, but got some reward last round when they upset Emu Creek to win their second game.
Captain Alex Sutton leads the competition’s bowling with 26 wickets, which included his third five-wicket haul of the season last week.
But as always with the Crows, can they make enough runs to trouble the Tigers and cause another upset?
• Runs - Alex Sutton (230); Jayden Mannix (150); Andrew Renato (117). Wickets - Alex Sutton (26); Liam Pilcher (13).
