The students took part in relationship building games and classroom activities on Friday as a way of learning about a new school.
Secondary teacher Shane Bright said many students were nervous coming to a large school.
"It's about integrating the students," he said.
"A school is more settled if there are good interpersonal relationships
"We give the students a curriculum but also a holistic approach to relationships.
"We try to build the school into a community.
"A lot of them are mixing together.
"We will increase the mix by giving a year 7 student a year 10 buddy."
Mr Bright said the new concept was intended to encourage the students to mingle with other year levels.
"We have some students working on mission statements for their years, inspirational quotes, sporting activities and photography," he said.
Mr Bright said through the new approach the students would develop a deeper appreciation for school.
"We want to make it a place the students are proud to come to," he said.
"We want to diminish the negative stigma that Crusoe has by giving the students the opportunity to mix together.
"We are starting to see good results already."
