ABOUT 140 Rebels Motorcycle Club Australia members rode through Bendigo following a funeral service in Kennington today.
The members attended a thanksgiving service this morning in Crook Street, Kennington to honour the life of Bendigo man Nicholas Stuart 'Batty' Day.
Funeral director Mark Mulqueen said about 500 people attended.
The service began with the song 'Brothers in Arms' by Dire Straits and all members of Rebels MC Australia formed a guard of honour as the coffin was carried into the hall.
There were four guest speakers including 'Jonesy' from the Geelong chapter of Rebels MC Australia and president of the Bendigo chapter Mark Rovers.
After the service a funeral cortege travelled to the Eaglehawk Cemetery.
During the burial, the coffin was lowered into the ground to the song 'Stairway to Heaven'.
Bendigo police halted traffic at every major intersection the procession went through on its journey from Kennington to Eaglehawk.
Bendigo Sergeant Peter Beaman said police were involved to ensure public safety.
A tribute notice published in the Bendigo Advertiser six days ago reads:
Passed away unexpectedly at Bendigo Hospital, aged 32 years. Batt, to hear your voice, to see you smile, To sit and talk to you awhile. To be together in the same old ways, Would be my greatest wish today. Babe you never failed to do your best, Your heart was true and tender. You simply lived for those you loved, Those you loved remember. Death will not part us or distance divide. Forever and always you'll be by my side. The last moments with you will live in my heart forever. Rest in peace Babe. Love forever and always, your Baby Girl Bree XOX
