AS THE school year gets started this week, more preps stepped through the gates for the first time.
Holy Rosary Primary School was abuzz on Friday morning as the youngest students settled into their new environment.
Some faces were full of uncertainty while others were excited that the day they had been waiting for had finally come.
Prep teacher at Holy Rosary Jo said the first day would be about getting to know their surrounds - where to sit, where to put their bags and where to find the toilet.
Mother Danielle Dobie said the day was a momentous occasion because her first child was starting school.
"I'm okay, she's going to be fine," Ms Dobie said.
Her daughter Grace appeared happy and relaxed in the classroom.
Mother Tenille Baker said she was a bit nervous for her daughter Ava, and a little sad that 'the baby stage' was officially over.
At the same time, Ms Baker said, it was exciting to usher in a new era of growth and independence.
