Devanny was again the talk of the Bendigo District Cricket Association last round after a superb double against Huntly-North Epsom in which he made an unbeaten 95 out of 158, before following it up with a club-record 8-51 off 21 overs.
“It was one of those good games where the track offered a bit for both the batsmen and bowlers and it went my way... I guess I’m trying to make hay while the sun shines,” Devanny said on Thursday.
After nine rounds, Devanny has now combined 602 runs at an average of 86 with 26 wickets.
His 602 runs - already a club record at Strathfieldsaye for a season - are 205 more than any other player in the BDCA this season, while only Kangaroo Flat skipper Adam Burns (28) has taken more wickets.
There has certainly been no hangover after his breakthrough season last year when he won the BDCA Cricketer of the Year.
“I’m doing less now at training then when I was younger and probably training a bit smarter, but I’ve also learned from mistakes, especially with the bat,” Devanny said on Thursday.
“I’ve tried to cut down on getting out in silly ways and bat to time more.”
Devanny’s maturity as a batsman was epitomised last round when rather than throwing his wicket away late in pursuit of another ton this season, he backed No.11 Chris Cullen to hold up an end, with the pair adding a valuable 35 for the 10th wicket in what became a tie with the Power.
Finishing unbeaten on 95 left Devanny five shy of what would have been his fourth ton of the season - a feat not achieved in the BDCA since Nick Scullie and Heath Behrens both scored four centuries in 2006-07.
Since the start of last season, Devanny has scored 1074 runs from 23 innings at an average of 56.5 with five centuries.
The Jets enter round 10 against Golden Square at MyJet Oval sitting third on the ladder as they chase just their second finals berth since their only BDCA premiership in 2000-01.
