Run by trio Libby Fullard, Zita Waldron-Brown and Kristie Cullinan, the Volaire Calisthenics College, will be based in Maiden Gully.
The experienced calisthenics athletes say they decided to branch out and be a part of a new venture.
“We are very excited to be able to bring calisthenics to Maiden Gully,” Fullard said.
“We hope to bring the sport to children in outlying areas who may not want to come into town to experience these performance based activities.”
Fullard said the college wasn’t a business it was a not-for-profit organisation that worked with and for the community.
She said she has been involved with calisthenics since she was a young girl and hoped the new college would inspire a new generation.
"It is a team based sport," Fullard said.
"People can set their own individual based goals but it is that comradery of being in a team and achieving together is what is the best part."
Waldron-Brown said the trio were qualified by the Australian Sports Commission and that they would offer people of all ages that chance to experience calisthenics, gymnastics and ballet.
“There will be fitness, flexibility and strength and all of those things but it is also about confidence,” she said.
“We will offer an opportunity to go to competitions a few times throughout the year, there is also an opportunity for people to just come and learn.”
Waldron-Brown said they had a strong vision for the future of the college.
“Our long term goals include offering one-on-one lessons when we do have more coaches,” she said.
“We would also like to bring in some people in with speciality skills, so it is not just about calisthenics every week.”
Classes are set to begin on February 4 and 5 with the first two weeks of classes free.
The college will be based at either the Maiden Gully Primary School or the hall across the road.
