"We got approval for the changes on Thursday afternoon," he said.
"The signs have to be couriered up from Melbourne and will be installed by the end of next week.
"We will be reducing the speed from 80km/h to 60km/h during school times."
Mr Lindsay advised drivers in the area to take extra caution while driving near the school.
Marist College Bendigo opens its doors for the first time on Tuesday.
The timed school zones will see the speed limit on Pata's Road reduced to 60km/h on weekdays between 8am and 9.30am and 2.30pm and 4pm.
WEDNESDAY: COUNCIL is addressing resident concerns over the speed limits on roads surrounding the Marist College Bendigo.
Residents had been concerned the speed limits on Pata's Road and Golf Links Road would remain at 80km/h when the college opens next week.
One concerned resident said she has had near misses on Pata's Road.
"When I'm turning right into my driveway the trucks come over the hill at 80km/h," she said.
"I thought they would have been put up a month ago so people could get used to them.
Acting manager of engineering and public space Aaron Lindsay said the City of Greater Bendigo was waiting approval on new speed limits from Vic Roads.
"We are currently in dialogue (with VicRoads) about the introduction of timed school zones on Pata's Road," he said.
The timed school zones will see the speed limit on Pata's Road reduced to 60km/h on weekdays between 8am and 9.30am and 2.30pm and 4pm.
"They are the key drop-off and pick-up times," Mr Lindsay said. "The approval (of the speed zones) is up to VicRoads."

Mr Lindsay said when VicRoads approved the speed zones, council would install the relevant signage.
Council has also introduced a right-hand turning lane on Pata's Road to enter Golf Links Road.
Marist College Bendigo will be accessed by buses and cars from Golf Links Road.
"The drop off area is within the school and accessed from Golf Links Road," Mr Lindsay said.
"Buses will then exit to Patas Road while cars will enter and exit from Golf Links Road. We have recently done some works there and constructed a right-hand turning lane to improve road safety."
VicRoad regional director Mal Kersting said VicRoads was aware of the application from the council regarding the implementation of new school speed zones along Pata's Road and Golf Links Road in Maiden Gully.
"VicRoads will review the application to ensure that the proposed changes to speed limits in the area meet requirements under the state’s Speed Zoning Guidelines," he said.
