On reading a biography on Andy Warhol she was fascinated by the extent of his shopping addiction – the many rooms of his apartment filled with bags filled with purchases that were never opened. She said his life and art were about desire.
Tabula is an installation of domestic objects such as refrigerators and office document trays, modified into solemn, minimalist forms, thereby silencing their everyday functionality and heightening their visual allure. The objects relate to desire for otherness, for acquisition, for achievement and for escape.
"Some of us have experienced that hypnotic lure of an object beckoning to be bought, delivering a short-lived high followed by emptiness," acting artistic director Paul Northam said.
"Instead of achieving uncluttered, empty state of mind the artist found herself thinking about work and organising her day.Using office trays to represent these burdens, Radovcich stacks them far beyond the normal two tray in and out configuration."
The exhibition is open until February 22.
