Each organisation will contribute $4M to the development of facilities across two stages and a six-year funding agreement. The partnership will deliver a car park, internal road, senior sports oval, junior sports oval, netball courts, walking and cycling paths, a play space and multi-purpose community centre.
Mayor Cr Peter Cox said a partnership of this scale is significant for the city.
“This is a win-win for the community, the school and Council. To be able to share the costs of a project such as this ensures the delivery of top quality facilities,” Cr Cox said.
“Maiden Gully is one of Greater Bendigo’s fastest growing areas at a rate of 5 per cent each year. Often levels of government are criticised for failing to properly plan for growth areas but this is a great example of being on the front foot rather than playing catch-up.
“The partnership also highlights Council’s commitment to deliver infrastructure across the municipality and provide for all residents, not just those living close to the CBD.”
Marist College Bendigo Principal Darren McGregor said the facilities ushered in an exciting chapter for the Maiden Gully community.
“We are building more than just a school for local families, these facilities will help us to build an engaged, fit and healthy community,” Mr McGregor said.
“These facilities will be central to the new Maiden Gully growth area paving the way for a walkable neighbourhood and will also meet the needs of residents in Marong and Eaglehawk.”
