The meeting
The romance for Nic and Catherine got off to a lukewarm start, on the running track around Catherine’s local area.
It was 2003.
Three years later, the couple were catching the same train from the city in Melbourne in the evenings.
Catherine was attending TAFE in Fitzroy and Nic was working in the city.
After going out on another run, the couple ran into each other at the driveway of Catherine’s parents’ house, where Catherine recognised Nic from the train journeys.
(She had no idea he was the ‘running guy’ from 2003)
Catherine asked Nic if he wanted to car pool to the train station, as they both lived on the same street in Romsey.
This carpooling idea resulted in a mutual kiss, and they have been together ever since.
A few weeks into the relationship Nic told Catherine about the previous running incident, which they always laugh about now.
The wedding day
The ceremony was held at the St Mary’s Catholic Church in Romsey. The bridal party consisted of the groomsmen – Jeremy Needham (best man) and brother of the groom, Shaun Potas, friend and former workmate, and Glenn Delgarno, a friend from local CFA.
The bridesmaids were Shantelle Cardwell–Smith, a childhood friend of the bride, and Kelly Szcyzgielski, a cousin and friend of the bride.
The reception was held at the Grange Cleveland Winery Lancefield.
The Inkasounds band played during the night, and for the bridal waltz they played can’t take my eyes off you by Frankie Valley. It was a special moment.
The dress
The bride wore a traditional princess style dress with lace beading, a long train and a tulle skirt. It had a cathedral length veil made to match.
The design had a corset bodice with covered buttons and lace sleeves, and was purchased from Spurling Formal and Bridal in Essendon.
The cake
The cake was made by Libby Nicks Cakes Romsey. It was a three-tiered white chocolate mud cake with lace piping and white roses on top.
The photography
Gary Priest photographer and videographer.
The honeymoon
The happy couple went to Sydney the following weekend, completed the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb, and were looking forward to 10 nights in Hawaii.
