The meeting
Michael and I knew each other from the same high school. We met again in November of 2009 at the National Hotel. Michael was all hairy for Movember.
We continued to speak through Facebook and we had our first date, which was coffee at my house on December 29; we just clicked. We have been inseparable since. I think it’s all in his eyes.
The proposal
Michael and I went out for tea for his birthday, where we went to Clogs for our favourite pizza.
We were supposed to catch a movie but instead we got ice-creams and went to the lake. On a dark night underneath the stars, Michael got down on one knee and popped the question. Of course accepted!
The wedding day
We decided to have a destination wedding because we both wanted a beach wedding. We chose Airlie Beach in Queensland.
We had an awesome wedding planner – Jacki from “I Do Events Whitsundays” – who organised everything. We had more than we could have ever wanted and all stress free.
We nearly had to change our venue as it had been raining a little that day, but just on time the sky changed to a perfect blue and we were treated to a stunning rainbow.
We were married on the beautiful Boathaven Beach, Airlie Beach at 3pm with just our three boys, bridesmaid and two guests. It was an intimate and special time, everything we could have hoped; a warm sea breeze and water lapping at the edge of the sand.
Afterwards we were picked up from the beach and headed off on a sunset cruise around the bay.
We had our tea at Peppers Resort, which was amazing.
Upon arriving home we had our reception at the Basement on View where Glenys and her team put on the most spectacular High Tea lunch for our family and friends to enjoy. The food and the atmosphere were just wonderful.
The dress
My dress was purchased from Belles and Bows in Eaglehawk. The ladies there were so patient and accommodating of my every need. I knew as soon as I saw the dress, that it was the one and only for me.
The cake
My cake was made by the mastermind Doug at Country Cakes. I had chosen a two-tiered lemon sour naked cake. It was Doug’ s first go at a naked cake and we nearly didn’t think we were going to get it. But Doug came through for us and I was completely happy with it.
The photographer
Deb from Tropix Airlie Beach was truly amazing at keeping our photos natural and bringing out the atmosphere of the day.
We also had Justin from Blue Turtle make a beautiful touching video of our day to play to our family and friends at our reception.
The honeymoon
We returned to Airlie Beach for a week and stayed at Peppers. We hired a moke to drive around and went on a snorkeling cruise of the Great Barrier Reef! Spectacular times.
