A RESCUE group's emergency dash to Broken Hill last month to save 12 puppies among other animals has seen more than half of them adopted so far.
Furever Friends founder Jess Woodford, one of two volunteers to make the 17-hour round trip to pick up the animals in late November, said seven mastiff wolfhounds puppies were adopted last week.
She said the other five puppies, who were mastiff kelpies, remained in foster care and were due to start their desexing program today.
About three weeks ago, the pregnant dog rescued during the Broken Hill mission gave birth to nine medium cross-breed puppies.
Ms Woodford said those puppies were in foster care but Furever Friends was calling on more foster carers for other rescued animals.
"We're in desperate need of more foster carers," she said.
She said the need for additional foster carers was heightened during this period, known for being an animal dumping season.
"It's fairly urgent," she said.
"A lot of pounds put down animals just before Christmas to make extra room for the influx of animals at this time of year."
