UPDATE 3.20pm: The grassfire at Dooboobetic has now been brought under control and is no longer a threat.
EARLIER: THE Bureau of Meteorolgy has issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds for people in the North Central, North East, Central, West and South Gippsland and East Gippsland forecast districts due to an active cold front moving rapidly eastwards over central Victoria.
Bureau duty forecaster Richard Carlyon said the winds could increase to as much as 85 kilometers per hour over the next hour.
He said that while towns to the south west had experience storms earlier in the day, Bendigo's rain would be limited to thundery showers which would persist throughout the afternoon before easing at night.
"There's not too much rain, it’s just more wind about with the change," he said.
"It's been up to 26 degrees and will probably just lower a bit behind the cold front sending that temperature back to the low twenties throughout the afternoon."
The State Emergency Service advises that people should move vehicles under cover or away from trees, secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony and keep clear of fallen power lines.
The CFA has also issued a watch and act warning for Dooboobetic, north of St Arnaud due to a small grassfire travelling fast in a easterly direction from St Arnaud-Wycheproof Road.
The fire could impact homes, livestock and property anytime between 12pm and 4pm.
