"It's probably been sitting up on the link and pecked the wrong thing," he said.
"He's obviously pecked the pole, which has shorted out something and the circuit breaker's gone out. Normally some sparks are dropped when that happens."
Captain Mustey said the residents did a very good job in containing the fire before crews arrived.
"It probably only took us about five minutes (to control) once we got here," he said.
"(Residents) had their own fire fighting units and one bloke got his little tractor and put an earth break around (the fire) to help contain it."
Captain mustey said it was the second time in a week that a bird had started a grass fire.
The other incident occurred in Doles Road.
EARLIER: CFA crews are cleaning up a fire that started after a transformer box on a power pole exploded.
Residents said they heard the explosion on Maiden Gully Road about 10.30am.
Part of a paddock near Bonazza Road caught fire.
It has since been brought under control.
Three CFA tankers and a police unit are on scene.
