Families, friends and those in need of some friendly faces on Christmas Day packed the All Seasons event centre on Thursday.
All Seasons and the City of Greater Bendigo combined to deliver the Bendigo Community Christmas.
The traditional ham, turkey and gravy was the order of the day for up to 300 people.
Dozens of volunteers from the Bendigo Volunteer Resource Centre brought plate after plate from the All Seasons kitchen.
All Seasons Bendigo venue manager Jeanine Cooke said the lunch was a way to make sure nobody felt left out.
"People who might have no family or are retired could come and have lunch and meet some new people," she said.
"We're here to provide a lovely lunch at no cost.
"We love spending Christmas with our guests, and the people here today are our guests."
Bec Chalmer from 3BO was the MC for the event, while Mayor Peter Cox gave a speech and Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters greeted attendees.
People registered for the lunch beforehand.
Retired couple Gail and Peter Shepherdson came along to the lunch for the community atmosphere.
"It's much better to eat with people than to eat on your own," Mr Shepherdson said.
Mrs Shepherdson said it was a lovely room and she enjoyed meeting new people.
Colin Dix attended the lunch with his family, and said it was good for people who couldn't afford to have a proper Christmas.
"You meet all different people here. It's good to see people you met last year as well," he said.
"Last year's lunch was good as well, and the year before. But you can't have it two or three days before Christmas, it has to be on Christmas Day."
The City of Greater Bendigo previously held the lunch before Christmas Day, but it is now likely the All Seasons will continue the tradition for years to come.
Volunteer Tina Bone spent the lunch helping people to their places and bringing out the meals.
She said it was great to meet new people and help spread some Christmas cheer.
"Some people don't know what to do on Christmas Day, but they want to be involved and meet new people," Ms Bone said.
"Hopefully we can give them a Christmas smile."
Champions Supa IGA Long Gully provided up to $6000 in food vouchers for those in attendance to spend at the supermarket.
