Victorious in the under-16 singles at last week's Quest Bendigo Junior Open, Watson has the No.1 ranking for the Warrnambool classic.
He did not concede a set in his run on the Bendigo Bank tennis complex hardcourts.
The lead-up to Warrnambool has included training with coach Steve Storer at the Bendigo Lawn Tennis Club.
"Playing on grass is a great challenge. The key is to try and keep the points shorter, attack the net more often, and work on placement of serve," Watson said.
Watson's campaign includes teaming with Echuca's Erik Holt-Crossman in the AMT doubles.
In the new year, Watson will wield his Tecnifibre racquet at tournaments in Albury and Wodonga.
The Catholic College Bendigo student and parents Brian and Sheryle have also travelled to Melbourne for sessions with the Player Support Program.
The Bendigo Bank Academy of Sport tennis squad member has increased fitness and strength.
