AFL Victoria announced on Friday that Bendigo had been selected to host the bi-annual clash between Victoria Country and the VAFA on Saturday, July 11.
The under-19 clash will start the day’s proceedings at 9.45am, before AFL Victoria Country No. 2 meets the VAFA Premier B-Division 4 squad from 12.40pm.
The highlight of the day will be the game between AFL Victoria Country No. 1 and VAFA 1 from 4pm.
“The commission set a goal to attract quality football games to our region in 2015,’’ AFL Central Victoria general manager Paul Hamilton said.
“The opportunity to see the best country players in the state play against the VAFA is one that will be exciting for the region.
“Hopefully, we will have some representatives from our leagues make the sides through our inter-league football programs.
“Today’s announcement follows the recent announcements of the Carlton v Collingwood NAB Cup challenge game and the two quality VFL games for 2015. We thank the City of Greater Bendigo for their support in attracting this event”.
Golden Square’s Jack Geary and Gisborne’s Tom Waters represented AFL Victoria Country this year.
The past three clashes between AFL Victoria Country and VAFA have been decided by less than a goal.
“It’s really pleasing that City of Bendigo has made the QEO available for the event which has become a highlight on the football calendar,” AFL Victoria community football and engagement manager Brett Connell said.
“These representative matches offer the best community footballers from across country Victoria and the Victoria Amateur Football Association’s many divisions a chance to test themselves at a higher level and return their local clubs to share their experience.”
