Liam Jacobs, 20, pleaded guilty to five charges at the Bendigo Magistrates Court on Friday.
Police arrested Jacobs at Perch nightclub on October 18 after finding a bag of 43 ecstasy tablets in his trousers.
The court heard he had sold seven tablets during the night.
He was also found with a small quantity of amphetamines and $443 from the proceeds of crime.
The court heard Jacobs had sold 40 ecstasy tablets at Universal nightclub on October 11.
On both occasions the amount came from a bag of 50 tablets, 10 of which were for his own use, the court heard.
Leading Senior Constable Chris Jones said Jacobs received $1200 from the sales on October 11, $1100 of which was passed on to another party.
Jacobs admitted to police he had sold ecstasy at Bendigo venues since August this year.
Jacobs told police he decided to deal as a way to pay for his personal use, the prosecution said.
Police also conducted a search of Jacobs' bedroom at his family's Golden Square house where they found a container with 15 ecstasy tablets.
The defence counsel said Jacobs was a "fine young man" who had acknowledged his offending.
He said Jacobs had acted immaturely and used his dealing as part of a social scene.
In sentencing, Magistrate David Cottrill said while it was on the lower end of the trafficking scale, a message needed to be send out to the community.
"Drugs are a cancer on our society. They cause much suffering in our community," he said.
"Invariably this act feeds into the criminal world."
Several people attended court after providing character statements for Jacobs.
Jacobs was convicted on the charges of trafficking ecstasy, possession of a drug of dependence, use of a drug of dependence, use of amphetamines and possession of proceeds of crime.
