The touring professional will return to his hometown on Saturday to play alongside family and friends in the 4BBB stableford event.
“I really enjoy the event… it’s a good chance to get home and have a relaxing round of golf with friends,’’ Martin said.
“The tournament is well run and it’s a lot of fun. I’ve probably played in it five or six times and it’s always a good day.”
While Saturday’s event is not a serious tournament for Martin, the round will keep him in the groove for an important trip to Thailand in a fortnight.
“January 2 is the first stage of qualifying school for the Asian Tour,’’ Martin said.
“If I can get through the first stage, the final stage is two weeks later.
“Ideally, I’d love to be able to put the clubs away over the Christmas period, but I need to keep playing to get ready for Thailand.
“I didn’t have the best finish to the year this year, so I’m still feeling fresh and keen to starter next year better.”
On Saturday at Bendigo, Martin will play alongside fellow professional Kris Mueck and two of their good friends – Hayden Nielsen and Travis Fitzpatrick.
Martin will play off a handicap of +2.
“I’ve won a few nearest the pins at this event over the years, but I don’t think I’ve ever won it,’’ Martin said.
Amateur star Lucas Herbert is also a confirmed starter for the Christmas Challenge. Herbert, ranked the third best amateur in the world, will play alongside Bendigo Golf Club star Chris Wilkinson, Drummond Golf executive Jamie Cooke and Lake Karrinyup Country Club general manager Damon Lonnie.
