A fundraiser at the Golden Vine Hotel on Friday, December 19, will help Haven; Home, Safe provide needy families with Christmas hampers.
The Helping Families at Christmas gig will feature The John Grossman Project, Steve Saxton, Christopher King and Magna Mouse.
The John Grossman Project guitarist Keith MacQueen said each act on the line-up had agreed to donate their payment fee and all proceeds from the $5 door entry to Haven; Home, Safe to kickstart the fundraising.
“We thought it’s that time of year and it would be nice not just to have a Christmas celebration, but to do something for those who might be doing things a bit tough,” Mr MacQueen said.
“One of our band members (Cliff Breed) works at Haven; I’ve seen the work they’ve done over the years and they do such a great job.
“It’s good that they'll use the money to buy hampers for families, that’s a very direct outcome.”
Playing a pre-Christmas gig has become something of a tradition for The John Grossman Project.
"We are known around town as a fun time band with a sense of humour, but we have also participated in many charity events and we feel that at this time of year, it’s important that we do something to contribute towards a better Christmas for those Bendigo families that struggle at this time of year," said band leader John Grossman.
“Using our Christmas celebration gig to raise money was a logical way to do that.
“We encourage everyone to come along and enjoy our usual mix of great songs from all eras and have a great night at the same time contributing towards a better Christmas for Bendigo families.”
Hotel owner Mark Elliott said a gold coin donation from players at the pub’s Wednesday trivia nights during December would also be donated to Haven.
The Helping Families at Christmas event starts at 7.30pm.
