THE region's most outstanding trade industry students were recognised at the Bendigo TAFE Trade Awards last week.

Awards were presented to students working in automotive, carpentry, electrical, refrigeration, engineering, machine repair, landscape construction and painting and decoration fields.
The major award of the night, the Trade Apprentice of the Year, was presented to Michael Jones.
Mr Jones, who undertook a three year plumbing apprentice, received a trophy and $750 in prize money. The award was sponsored by Keech Australia.
The Jack McPhail Award was presented to Mason Lord - a third year mechanical engineer apprentice. The award is in memory of the late Jack McPhail, a former teacher of fitting and machining at the institute.
Bruce Hicks was the recipient of the Jack Hodge Award, presented in memory of the late Jack Hodge who taught plumbing and sheet metal at the Bendigo School of Mines from 1952.
The award is presented to the most outstanding fourth year plumbing apprentice.
The Geoff Austin Award for the most outstanding third year apprentice went to Richard Spicer, who works as a carpenter at John Buckell Homes.
The award is presented in recognition of Geoff Austin, who worked at the institution from 1977 to 1991.
Trades and Industries director Jim Box said Bendigo TAFE was grateful for the ongoing support of the trade awards night from local industry and partners.
"The awards night is an evening of industry celebration where students, friends and families attend, along with trade industry representatives, sponsors and Bendigo TAFE teachers and staff," Mr Box said.
