After a brilliant finish to last weekend's Australian Masters in which he was joint leader on the final day, Ravenswood teenager Lucas Herbert will start day two at the Open on four-over.
The amateur star's opening round at the Rosebery course include a birdie at the 14th, 12 par, and five bogeys.
Herbert's clubmate from Neangar Park near Eaglehawk, Andrew Martin finished on two-over.
It was an up-and-down day for Martin.
He achieved birdies at the 2nd and 16th, racked up 13 par, two bogeys, and had a double bogey at the 3rd.
Another of Neangar Park's stars, Kris Mueck from Axedale carded six-over on day one.
Mueck's round included a birdie at the 18th, 11 par and five bogey.
A double bogey at the 8th sent him tumbling down the board.
Bendigo-born Rhein Gibson had a fine start to be one-under.
A double bogey at the fourth was followed by a birdie on the fifth. He racked up four birdies and 13 par.
America's Jordan Spieth leads the title chase on four-under.
