Just as a naked flame attracts moths, so do flashing blue lights have the opposite effect by repelling the less salubrious elements of our Bendigo citizenry.  

We live in the vicinity and the "bush telegraph" must have been working overtime, as the northern car park of the lake was so devoid of the "usual suspects" (hoons and drug dealers) that it resembled a nudist colony during a mosquito infestation. 

Notably absent were the ice dealers and users (two of whom I surprised recently planting a "stash" behind our back fence), so we were spared the nightly ritual of flashing headlights and a steady procession of cars entering and leaving the car park.

Gone too were the rumbling engines and exhausts, the incessant "doof doof" of cranked-up sound systems, the screeching of tyres, the smell of burning rubber, the shouting of obscenities and the breaking of bottles.   

We enjoyed a rare evening of peace and quiet. So thank you again to the police and please feel free to set up a booze bus in our vicinity any time you see fit.   

One quiet night without incident means more to us than an all-expenses paid trip to Fiji!
