The BTA's hosting of this year's McDonald's Classic earned the Tennis Australia award for No.1 ranking tournament of the year.
The awards presentation was on Monday night when a who's who of Australian tennis gathered in Melbourne for the Newcombe Medal.
A high for the BTA was tennis ace Casey Dellacqua congratulating executive officer Leon Retallick, pictured contributed.
Dellacqua achieved back-to-back wins in last year's William Loud Classics in Bendigo.
"To receive the award is fantastic recognition for all those involved with our tournaments, especially big ones such as the McDonald's Classic and the Festival of Tennis," Henshall said.
"Bendigo has shown it can host these events and run them extremely well.
"It's a credit to the BTA, volunteers and Tennis Australia who work so well together."
Henshall said the city's location was a huge drawcard for players.
"The BTA's strategic plan was to build to being a major tournament provider.
"A major award like this shows we are on the right track and we can do this."
Henshall said an upgrade of facilities would mean Bendigo could continue to build on its tournament status.
"The goal is to have three showcourts and to improve our player facilities," he said of the BTA's headquarters at the Bendigo Bank tennis complex in Nolan Street.
"A lot of centres are determined to run major tournaments.
"Improving our facilities is crucial in keeping the tournaments we have and possibly gaining more in the future." .
