UPDATE 6.50PM:
The Rochester SES unit attended 14 calls for help on Monday afternoon. Eight of the calls were for the storm-hit town of Elmore
In total, there were 42 calls for assistance in the north west region of Victoria.
Rushworth and Strathfieldsaye each received three calls, while Bendigo SES responded to two.
UPDATE 6.00PM:
Few towns were spared the damaging storm that passed through central Victoria during Monday afternoon.
Boort, Pyramid Hill and surrounding districts were without power for up to two hours during the afternoon.
Norma Allen, of the Boort Commercial Hotel, said the storm knocked over an old willow tree across the road.
"There were real masses of rain, the whole works," she said.
The town lost power between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.
Ms Allen said businesses with automated doors had a tricky time in the afternoon.
"Luckily we cook with gas, so people knew they could get food here," she said.
"It's the third time in the last few weeks that we've lost power in the town."
UPDATE 4.30PM:
ELMORE resident Keith Bell said he knew the large tree in his front yard would not last.
"It wasn't going to stand through it," he said.
"It was more than a mini-tornado, I couldn't even see my fence.
"It's the worst storm I have seen and I have seen a lot of storms."
EARLIER:
THE township of Elmore is working to clear branches from footpaths and roads following what one resident has described as an "unbelievable" storm.
Ron Steen, who operates the post office in the main street, said for about 15 to 20 minutes this afternoon the weather caused chaos.
"It was quite unbelievable," he said.
"I am in a two-storey building and the rain was coming through a bathroom window upstairs into the stairwell.
"That's a good five metres away.
"I had some old ladies in and wouldn't let them out. It was quite overwhelming."
Mr Steen said prior to the storm the sky turned black - "like it was night time".
"My sensor lights came on," he said.
Mr Steen said there were branches down everywhere.
Owner of Elmore Take Away Hank Teuben said the storm was "one of the worst" he had seen for years.
"The lights went out, it was torrential rain, branches were ripped off trees, signs blown down," he said.
"The walls were shaking. It felt like a hurricane."
