As part of a snapshot into the Sidney Myer Haven development outlined in its 2013-14 report released on Thursday, the first units of the $6 million development at Sommerville Street are anticipated to be at lock-up stage by Christmas.

Previous estimates put the development on track for completion by December this year.

Haven Home Safe spokesperson Sue Masters said two units out of the 23-unit facility would likely reach the practical completion stage by Christmas.

"We’re a little bit behind and we don't shy away from that in the report," she said.

"These things happen."

Ms Masters said issues with the site and civil works had contributed to some of the delay. 

"It’s been frustrating, but it's on track, the frames are going in," she said.

She said physical construction of the facility was one thing, but the bigger consideration was constructing the social curriculum for the people who would live there.

"It will be a place where they can get back on track, get involved with education, restart," she said.

"The biggest and best outcome is that it will change the trajectory of their life as well."

Haven Home Safe has begun the process of finding a dedicated manager to look after and drive the project.

"We need someone special, they need to have a huge skill set, it’s going to be a huge job," Ms Masters said.

She said Haven Home Safe praised the fundraising efforts of Charter Hill managers Will Green and James Dann, who completed a three-day, 153-kilometre run and raised $11,000 for the development on Thursday.

The money they raised will go towards equipment in the education centre on site, Ms Masters said.

She said the pair, who also attended Haven Home Safe's annual stakeholder meeting on Thursday night, were thanked with a round of applause on the night.

"It's another example of the level of community and business support for the project," she said.

"No one said they had to do this."
