The AAMoV is the professional association for individuals across all sections of the community who are involved with managing volunteer programs within the Australasian region, including Australia and New Zealand.
Ms Walsh manages about 300 volunteers at Bendigo Health who provide a wide variety of services, including administration, way finding, meet and greet and patient support across 30 departments throughout Bendigo Health.
At the annual awards, the AAMoV Board awarded Ms Walsh with a special commendation for her dedication towards the volunteer sector.
Ms Walsh was described as “highly respected and an admired volunteer manager who is acknowledged by her peers as a motivator, networker and volunteer expert”.
“She is a perfect example of a volunteer leader willing to go the extra mile to support, mentor and promote the true impact of volunteerism in her own organisation and others.”
Bendigo Health Community and Continuing Care executive director Liz Hamilton, echoed the AAMoV board’s comments of Sharon.
“Sharon is a dynamic, committed manager who has brought best practice to Bendigo Health and has led our volunteer program into the significant service we offer today that supports patients and residents in our acute, sub-acute and residential care services,” Ms Hamilton said.
“We really appreciate Sharon’s commitment and leadership – Sharon clearly demonstrates the values of Bendigo Health and is making a real difference in our community.”
Ms Walsh, who began her role with Bendigo Health in 2009, was extremely humbled by the award.
“I hope that in sharing this news it will raise the profile of volunteer managers and coordinators in other health services and the community who do an incredible job every day to support volunteers, their organisations for the benefit of those in need,” Ms Walsh said.
